We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Revenue Accounting and Operations Lead to lead our revenue accounting and operations team and ensure robust and compliant client billing and revenue recognition processes. This role is critical to our company’s success and presents a unique opportunity to lead and develop a scalable and high performing revenue function at a high growth leader in the digital asset space. This person will collaborate closely with various departments, including Product, Engineering, Data Science, Sales, Legal and Operations, to develop and implement policies, enhance processes and controls, streamline operations, and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to revenue recognition and billing operations.

Technical Skills

  • Lead and oversee the end-to-end Revenue Accounting and Billing Operations function, including all aspects of accurate and timely revenue recognition, billing, collections, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures in compliance with GAAP that align with the company's business model and revenue streams, including client payments in both fiat and cryptocurrency.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Evaluate customer contracts for non-standard terms and conditions that have revenue recognition implications and document the proper revenue accounting treatment in collaboration with Technical Accounting.
  • Apply advanced skills in Google Sheets and revenue recognition software to efficiently and reliably implement revenue recognition conclusions across multiple lines of business.
  • Perform detailed and data intensive reconciliations with disparate datasets.
  • Manage external audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and audits, SOC requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Complexity and Impact of Work:

  • Partner with Product, Engineering and Data Science teams to identify product and system features needed to accurately calculate and report billing, revenue, collections and accounts receivables. Streamline processes and implement automation tools/ revenue systems to improve the efficiency, scalability and accuracy of client billing and revenue recognition.
  • Partner with Legal, Sales, Technical Accounting and Business teams to review client contracts and ensure revenue implications and accounting requirements are well-understood and properly accounted for in new product launches, pricing strategies, and other business initiatives.I
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in existing revenue accounting procedures and drive initiatives to implement enhancements.
  • Act as a control owner, designing and implementing robust internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of revenue recognition processes, mitigating financial risks.

Organizational Knowledge:

  • Have a deep knowledge of the strategy of Anchorage Digital and its various business lines. Actively engage with different groups to work on understanding historical transactions as well as requirements for executing on go-forward global strategy.
  • Develop deep understanding of the multiple source data systems for client billing including production databases, blockchains, and spreadsheets.
  • Work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company’s objectives

Communication and Influence:

  • Articulate a clear strategy for the Revenue function and communicate across the company effectively.
  • Communicate, organize and execute on cross-team goals and projects, utilizing relationships and resources cross-functionally to solve problems.
  • Standardize and document processes and internal controls with an intentional approach to create shared consciousness and eliminate single points of failure.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for revenue and AR-related internal and external audit processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of revenue accounting professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear directions and priorities to the revenue accounting team by defining strategic direction, planning the roadmap, flagging dependencies and blockers, escalating issues, and synthesizing feedback to ensure team success.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering their professional growth and development through regular feedback, training opportunities, and career advancement support.
  • Plan and execute team staffing and succession planning in service of company goals, including identifying gaps, defining roles, and managing appropriate team size.

You may be a fit for this role if you have:

  • 10+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally with a mix of revenue accounting and public accounting; CPA license required.
  • Fluency in ASC 606 with a proven experience in managing complex revenue recognition processes, financial reporting, and audits, including a proven track record of designing processes to operationalize and scale technical revenue accounting conclusions for complex contracts.
  • Familiarity with crypto-specific revenue models (e.g., transaction fees, staking rewards) and accounting considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams and build effective relationships with cross-functional partners in a dynamic environment with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to drive cross functional projects and influence cross functional stakeholders, including GTM organizations and engineering teams.
  • Ability to break down large projects and processes into smaller tasks, accurately estimate their time and scope, articulate effectively the different options considered, and justify and define priorities.

Although not a requirement, bonus points if:

  • You’re proficient with NetSuite and revenue recognition software.
  • You have experience in the crypto, SaaS or technology industry.
  • You've kept up to date with the proliferation of blockchain and crypto innovations.
