Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a VP - Tech Foundations.

In this role, you will

  • Own the core technology infrastructure of Aurora, encompassing the platforms & tooling used in design, implementation, and management of systems and infrastructure used to build Aurora Driver with a Petabyte-scale Data Platform, MLOps Infrastructure, the Aurora Developer Experience pipeline (code, build, test, and deploy) and underpinning Aurora Connected Services.
  • Partner closely with the Software Engineering teams that develop Aurora Driver, Aurora Connected Services, Aurora Maps, to help shape the strategic vision and deliver the technical roadmap for Aurora's Infrastructure.
  • Build & maintain a modern cloud-based AI infrastructure, ensuring maximizing throughput on development pipelines, whilst minimizing cost-of-operations and time-taken to drive iterations of Aurora development processes.
  • Drive technical excellence and innovation, championing best practices in software development, architecture, system efficiency and reliability.
  • Combine technical leadership with organizational strategy to ensure Infrastructure empowers every part of Aurora - from product innovation to operational excellence.
  • Lead a highly cross-functional environment, collaborating closely with SW Engineering, Product Management, CyberSecurity, Legal and Finance.
  • Attract, hire and develop industry-leading Software, Data and ML engineers, leaders and operations staff (think DevOps, DataOps, MLOps, Cloud SRE)
  • Foster a team culture of collaboration, excellence, and delivery
  • Drive effective partnerships internally and externally with senior executives

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering Leadership experience at a company operating at scale that is dealing with mission critical systems (safety critical experience a bonus)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and align senior leaders and stakeholders across the company as well as external partners.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to make strategic decisions that balance technical trade-offs with business needs.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking with the ability to align technical solutions with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading teams responsible for large-scale infrastructure and/or developer/data platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, building, structuring, scaling technical organizations, including performance management
  • Proven track record of delivering significant performance and efficiency improvements in large-scale systems.
  • Experience in Distributed Systems, Data Infrastructure, ML Frameworks/Platforms, and Cloud native technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, AWS etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in building & managing highly-available cloud-services and infrastructure for business continuity and mission critical services.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with Machine Learning infrastructure and tools.
  • Experience working on large scale infrastructure.
  • Experience in transitioning growing startups as they scale to market-leading enterprises.

The base salary range for this position is $350,000 - $400,000. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
