Why We Exist

Every morning, 11,000 Americans wake up and begin their first day of retirement. While retirement should be an exciting, empowering, and fulfilling part of one’s life, the reality today is that retirement brings along with it a fundamentally new set of challenges that make it an overwhelming time for many.

At Chapter, we believe that the current infrastructure for retirement is broken, and we’re on a mission to fix it. We’ve started by building industry leading technology to solve the first major obstacle in retirement: navigating Medicare (healthcare coverage for retirees over 65). Our products help seniors sign up, choose an insurance plan, and leverage their plan after they are enrolled. And, unlike most Medicare advisors who only search plans that pay them, Chapter searches every Medicare option nationwide. This allows us to find savings and benefits that others miss.

But our ambition doesn’t stop with Medicare — we seek to transform the way that Americans navigate and experience retirement. If this sounds exciting to you, we’d love to speak with you.

About The Role:

Chapter has built industry-leading, proprietary technology to fulfill a simple promise: Help retirees find the best health coverage to meet their needs while reducing what they pay for it. A huge part of fulfilling that promise is being able to achieve scale in a sustainable way; at Chapter we believe in building an automation product that can copilot our internal teams to do more than anyone else in the industry.

As an automation engineer, you’ll be a part of a team of engineers, data scientists and operators working to develop and deploy a product suite that allows Chapter to scale in Medicare and beyond. You will embed with cross functional teams to understand their workflows, understand their data and develop products that optimize their experience for impact.

This role is a hybrid role located in NYC.

What You’ll Do:

  • Embed with cross functional teams to deeply understand their workflows and locate the biggest areas for improvement and impact
  • Build and deploy low-maintenance, long-standing applications that enable teams to be more efficient and more effective
  • Work with team leads and managers to revamp their processes using these apps and make adjustments as processes change or as our needs change
  • Ingest, transform and integrate internal and external data sources to operationalize tools and processes
  • Prioritize globally across the organization by saving time/resources not just for the embedded team but for Chapter overall

About You:

  • Minimum 6+ years experience in strategic data science/analytics roles in a technology company or an equivalent analytical role in a high growth startup
  • Degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, applied math, operations research or engineering or relevant work experience
  • Systems thinker; able to understand complex systems and how they interact with each other and explain it to others
  • Experience in leading high visibility projects and influencing others in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proficiency in SQL or other languages related to querying data (pandas, Pyspark etc.)
  • Experience in no/low code app building tools (e.g. retool). Familiarity with typescript or python is a plus but not required. Bonus points for being comfortable shipping production code.
  • Exceptional cross-functional communication and collaboration skills

Chapter Offers All Employees the Following Benefits and Perks

  • Full medical, dental, and vision, premiums covered at 100% for full-time employees
  • Unlimited PTO, a winter break shutdown, and paid holidays to encourage a healthy work-life blend
  • Team retreats, hackathons, and engineering team events including game nights.
  • $500 desk setup subsidy to set-up your unique home office
  • $100/month health and wellness subsidy
