About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Compliance Associate to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, conducting document audits, reviewing tax returns, and providing accurate and timely responses to member inquiries and tax authorities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of tax laws, exceptional attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Audit documents and member information to ensure completeness and compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Perform quality control by meticulously reviewing individual tax returns, S corporation tax returns, and reasonable compensation calculations.
  • Draft clear and concise member communications and external-facing articles related to tax compliance and updates.
  • Conduct initial reviews of external-facing content to ensure accuracy and compliance with tax regulations and company standards.
  • Research federal and state tax laws and regulations to stay updated on changes and developments.
  • Collaborate with the team to draft and review company policies related to tax compliance and reporting.
  • Investigate the cause of member tax notices and draft initial responses to the IRS and state taxing authorities in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and compliant tax-related processes.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of compliance-related activities and communications.
  • Adhere to deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively to meet compliance requirements.

What we want you to bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations, particularly related to individual and S corporation taxation.
  • Experience in auditing and quality control procedures, preferably in a tax compliance context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in conducting research using tax resources and staying updated on regulatory changes.
  • Prior experience in drafting company policies, member communications, and external-facing articles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and address compliance issues effectively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and tax preparation software.
  • Prior experience in drafting responses to IRS and state tax notices is a plus.
  • Flexibility to work in US Pacific Standard Time (PST) to accommodate member interactions and team collaboration.
