Staff Accountant (Insurance Focus)
Corgi
About Corgi
At Corgi, we’re building the first fully automated insurance carrier. Our goal is to rebuild the $1T+ insurance industry from the ground up using AI. We’re not just building a company—we’re building infrastructure for the next hundred years. If you’ve built things from scratch and know what it means to move fast and own outcomes, we want you on the team.
The Role
We’re looking for a licensed CPA to join as a Staff Accountant, reporting directly to our Head of Finance. You’ll support core accounting and finance functions while helping us design and implement scalable, automated systems from day one. Unlike traditional firms, you won’t just be closing books—you’ll be working alongside engineering to help automate accounting workflows and shape how finance operates in an AI-native company.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants more responsibility and growth than they’d get at a large firm. You’ll be exposed to everything from technical accounting to automation design, with direct mentorship from our Head of Finance.
What You’ll Do
- Support month-end close, reconciliations, and journal entries with accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal dashboards.
- Ensure audit readiness and compliance, including insurance carrier regulatory requirements.
- Manage day-to-day AP/AR, payroll, and vendor processes, with a focus on automation.
- Partner with the Head of Finance and engineering to scope and test accounting automation tools.
- Help refine internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance frameworks as we scale.
- Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support decision-making across the company.
What We’re Looking For
- Active CPA license (recently licensed CPAs encouraged to apply).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Strong foundation in U.S. GAAP, and SAP.
- Understanding of NAIC statutory accounting manuals and quarterly/annual statement requirements.
- Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment.
- Excited by the opportunity to build financial infrastructure from scratch rather than inherit legacy systems.
Nice to Have
- 2+ years of public accounting or audit experience.
- Interest in automation, AI tools, or engineering-driven workflows.
- Exposure to fintech, SaaS, or insurance.
- Knowledge of insurance-specific financial items.
- Ability to prepare NAIC Quarterly and Annual Statements (yellow book format).
- Experience with Schedules P, T, F, Y, and other insurance-specific schedules.
