Design at Docker is a fast-paced environment with lots of opportunity for those who are energized by designing for technical users. The Staff Product Designer in the Data and Policy team will hit the ground running, joining a cross-functional team focused on bringing new insights into the developer experience. The Scout team has built a robust platform of data for development teams. To start, the Staff Product Designer will work on discovering delightful ways to bring the value from this platform to the surface for developers, in the short, medium, and long term.

Staff Product Designers at Docker are self-motivated and highly communicative. They work across the organization to elevate product quality and ship delightful experiences for developers. They infuse teams with design thinking methodologies and balance vision with pragmatism in order to both deliver value and make the teams they work with more effective. Staff Product Designers lead vision and execution for distinct areas of the product in addition to providing leadership within the Product Design team and the Ecosystem BU as a whole.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead design strategy and execution for a cross-functional team focused on highly technical use cases

  • Build shared understanding across teams by running collaborative workshops and producing design artifacts and documentation

  • Champion the user’s perspective by running generative and evaluative user research studies in coordination with the User Research team

  • Elevate product quality by surfacing new ways to improve user experience

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience leading design for complex use cases in cross-functional teams

  • Prior experience working as part of a larger Design organization with shared processes and tools

  • Portfolio demonstrating advanced interaction and visual design skills

What to expect in the first 30 days:

  • Work closely with a cross-functional team to design the end-to-end flow for a new feature in our GUI

  • Participate in user research sessions and synthesize learnings

  • Present your work and solicit feedback from teams across the org

What to expect in the first 90 days:

  • Work with User Research team to define and lead a study focused on your area

  • Explore and share medium to long term design possibilities within your area

  • Deliver and launch new functionality within Docker Scout

  • Work with Design System team to refine system as needed for your feature

What to expect in the first year:

  • Develop deep understanding of our users and why they love Docker

  • Contribute to the team’s roadmap from a design perspective

  • Lead design initiatives across teams to create a holistic product vision
