Docker is a remote first company with employees across Europe, APAC and the Americas that simplifies the lives of developers who are making world-changing apps. We raised our Series C funding in March 2022 for $105M at a $2.1B valuation. We continued to see exponential revenue growth last year. Join us for a whale of a ride!

Product Design at Docker is a fast-paced environment with lots of opportunity for those who are energized by designing for technical users. We have millions of users and are one of the most loved developer tools in our space. We are dedicated to delivering fantastic developer experiences and staying close to the developer community.

We are looking for a Manager, Product Design to work closely with Engineering and Product Management in discovering and launching new product capabilities within the Platform Group. Our Platform Group includes teams focused on shared services across products, including Accounts, Authentication, Authorization, Billing, Design System, and more. This role requires a platform mindset, thinking about how to be a force multiplier across new and existing product lines. You will serve both the internal teams who are iterating on products as well as end users who interact with the experiences we design. Success in this role requires a get-things-done attitude balanced with a supportive and empowering approach to managing a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, coach and mentor a team of ~5 talented and dedicated designers. Provide ongoing guidance and support to help the team grow professionally and deliver high quality results

  • Oversee multiple cross-functional teams and projects, ensuring designers are focused on delivering value to our customers

  • Facilitate design reviews and communicate upwards and outwards to ensure open collaboration and visibility of your team’s work

  • Work closely with cross-functional leadership to incorporate user and design perspectives into strategy, roadmap and planning

  • Drive the development and maintenance of design guidelines and best practices to foster coherent experiences across products

  • Ensure frequent research with the customer, both internal and external

  • Work as part of a larger Product Design organization with shared processes and tools

Ideal candidate:

  • Genuine interest in the personal and professional growth of your team members

  • High level of taste with track record of raising the bar and keeping it high

  • Ability to drive a predictable and fast-paced design delivery cadence across multiple teams

  • Ability to drive and ship design-driven initiatives in a matrix environment

  • Prior experience leading a design team for technical and complex use cases in cross-functional teams

  • Keen on doing enough hands-on design work to teach and demonstrate a compelling, polished, and innovative design sensibility

What to expect in the first 30 days:

  • Get to know the team and connecting via 1:1 sessions with your team and cross-functional peers

  • Get familiar with Docker’s products and technology

  • Understand Docker’s product vision and how it relates to your team's goals and objectives

  • Write a heuristic review of opportunities for improvement in the product

  • Tell us where you need support as you work to build a world class team

What to expect in the first 90 days:

  • Continue learning (we love a growth mindset here and believe in progress over perfection)

  • Orient to the team’s talents, current product direction, and success metrics

  • Participate in or facilitate user research sessions. Communicate findings with the Product, Design, and Engineering teams

  • Facilitate team cohesion, team meetings, and feedback sessions across the Product Design team and cross-functionally

  • Get involved in product roadmap development for your team

  • Demonstrate impact on direction at Docker while setting goals with the team

  • Develop a deep understanding of our users and why they love Docker

What to expect in the first year:

  • Deliver UX changes positively impacting the lives of millions of developers globally

  • Plan and facilitate collaborative activities and workshops for your team

  • Shape your team’s roadmaps and vision in close collaboration with product and engineering peers

Perks:

  • Freedom & flexibility; fit your work around your life

  • Home office setup; we want you comfortable while you work

  • 16 weeks of paid Parental leave

  • Technology stipend equivalent to $100 net/month

  • PTO plan that encourages you to take time to do the things you enjoy

  • Quarterly, company-wide hackathons

  • Training stipend for conferences, courses and classes

  • Equity; we are a growing start-up and want all employees to have a share in the success of the company

  • Docker Swag

  • Medical benefits, retirement and holidays vary by country

Docker embraces diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our company will be.

Due to the remote nature of this role, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship.
