At Forward Networks, you will drive the selection, deployment, operation, and evolution of internal platforms and applications.

In this role, you’ll start as the player, getting your hands dirty on a wide breadth of systems and system types. Your responsibility will extend beyond just core “IT”, to frequent interactions with security and engineering teams.

As we grow (doubled in headcount in the last year!) you’ll share in the growth, as a team lead, in a growing team.

Must be interested in working from the office in Santa Clara at least two days a week, and able to come in as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive development work for physical systems, network devices, and virtual machines - to add new systems, replace existing ones, or integrate new functionality
  • Drive operations for corporate systems: handle tier-two escalations, write runbooks, and do knowledge transfer to systems engineers on the team
  • Work with vendors to maintain licenses and ensure capacity
  • Implement corporate security policies into all systems
  • Drive updates and patch management

Must be interested in working from the office in Santa Clara at least two days a week, and able to come in as needed.

Required background:

  • Ability to effectively debug hard problems with limited information
  • Infrastructure Systems Experience: experience configuring, operating, and maintaining:
    • VMware vCenter/ESX
    • File servers and NAS (disk and flash-based)
    • DDI Systems (DNS, DHCP, IPAM)
    • Firewalls
    • Access and identity systems (SSO, LDAP, VPN, …)
    • Backup and disaster recovery systems
  • Comfort with CLI and Linux
  • Understanding of application-relevant security concepts, including certificates, VPNs, and encryption
  • Understanding of network connectivity concepts, including IP address allocation, tunneling, L2/L3, firewalls, and proxies
  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent

Nice-to-have:

  • Leadership: team leadership and/or management experience
  • Scripting: Practical scripting and automation experience, including git, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, Kubernetes, REST APIs, etc.
  • Cloud: Experience provisioning and using resources in AWS (or other clouds)

Examples of potential job tasks:

  • Fix an error on vCenter with a VM
  • Generate and deploy certificates to a running app
  • Select, then deploy centralized monitoring
  • Move Jira to the Cloud
  • Create a runbook for main operations around a DDI box
  • Select a new storage array and test that performance matches vendor claims
  • Write and maintain inventory discovery and reconciliation scripts

Salary Range: $170,000 - $230,000
