About Us

Metronome is the leading usage-based billing platform built for modern software companies. With Metronome, companies can launch products faster, offer any pricing model, and streamline finance workflows without writing code.

Our platform computes millions of invoices per billing period and is scaling rapidly to accommodate new customers, saving them hours of development time and manual invoicing and enabling them to use consumption data to better serve their customers. Our customers love our product and approach, and we’re humbled to work with amazing companies like OpenAI, Databricks, NVIDIA, Confluent, and Anthropic.

You'll be joining an experienced team that includes founders who have successfully built and sold startups before. Our founders and employees also have direct experience building and scaling teams through massive growth at companies like Dropbox, Clever, and New Relic. On the back of this experience and our success-to-date, we’ve raised over $128M from leading investors including NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Elad Gil, and Workday Ventures. We’re also proud to have founders and executives of companies like Segment, Plaid, Looker, Gitlab, Confluent, HashiCorp, and Snowflake, as investors who have experienced the pain we're solving firsthand.

About the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who has a solid track record of developing and nurturing high-performing platform engineering teams. As the leader of our core product platform team, you'll bridge the gap between our infrastructure layer and product engineering teams, ensuring our business logic services are scalable, reliable, and enable rapid product innovation. The ideal candidate will deeply understand technical details while excelling at helping engineers deliver both incremental value and large-scale projects. You know how to support engineers at all stages of their career and are motivated to help them do their best work.

What You'll Do

  • Drive execution and delivery: Oversee multiple mission-critical projects that power Metronome's billing platform. Partner with engineers, technical leadership, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to set priorities, define milestones, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery of systems that process millions of invoices.
  • Manage engineers: Provide coaching, feedback, and mentorship to a group of 10+ engineers, enabling their professional growth while maintaining high standards for technical excellence and operational reliability.
  • Recruit and retain top talent: Play a key role in hiring skilled engineers and creating an environment that maximizes their potential and impact. Build a team culture that emphasizes both innovation and operational excellence.
  • Drive org-level initiatives: Champion initiatives that solve broad engineering challenges. Whether improving our observability systems, enhancing testing strategies, refining our SLO frameworks, or strengthening our mentorship program, you'll help establish best practices that elevate the entire engineering organization.

Impact You'll Have

  • Enable rapid scaling: You'll lead the team responsible for creating high-throughput services that can handle exponential customer growth, allowing Metronome to serve increasingly larger customers without service degradation.
  • Establish engineering excellence: By defining and implementing robust SLOs and SLAs, you'll create a culture of reliability that gives customers confidence to build Metronome into their core business operations.
  • Accelerate product velocity: Your team will build the foundational services and developer tools that enable product engineers to ship new features faster and more safely, directly impacting our ability to innovate in the market.
  • Drive technical transformation: Under your leadership, the platform will evolve to support increasingly complex pricing models and billing scenarios that were previously impossible, unlocking new market opportunities for Metronome.
  • Champion operational maturity: You'll transform how Metronome approaches production incidents, on-call responsibilities, and system reliability, resulting in happier engineers and more satisfied customers.
  • Cultivate engineering talent: The engineers on your team will grow technically and professionally through your mentorship, becoming future technical leaders who drive Metronome's continued success.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience: You’ve led platform-focused teams, including senior engineers.
  • 5+ years of technical experience: You’ve been in a highly technical role and understand what makes a great software engineer.
  • Strong organizational skills: You excel at managing multiple projects from concept to delivery and production support.
  • Experience building and supporting teams: You’re skilled in hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Commitment to inclusivity: You build diverse and inclusive teams through empathetic and direct communication.
