Nexus Labs
At Nexus Labs, we are on a mission to make blockchains maximally useful. To do so, we are building Nexus, the first general-purpose zero-knowledge cloud computing network, designed to scale Ethereum applications with stateless verifiable off-chain compute.
Nexus originated at Stanford University, and is backed by a suite of world-class investors including Dragonfly, Alliance, SV Angel and others. We believe in Ethereum’s values and cherish freedom, ownership, and meritocracy.
We are looking for great scientists and engineers excited about the future of verifiable computing and the Ethereum ecosystem to join our team.
The Role
We are looking for a full-time Senior Cryptography Engineer to join our team and help us build the core components of Nexus and Nexus Zero, all in Rust.
You will work on the Nexus Zero zkVM and the Nexus Virtual Machine (NVM), working at the bleeding edge of cryptography, zero-knowledge proofs, multi-party computation and distributed systems.
As a founding engineer, you will engage in high-level business strategy, protocol design, and will have a foundational impact over the development and direction of the protocol.
Responsibilities
Help design and build the Nexus Network and the Nexus Virtual Machine.
Help design and build the Nexus Zero network and the Nexus Zero zkVM.
Contribute high-quality, well-tested and well-documented code.
Requirements
A degree in mathematics, cryptography or theoretical computer science.
Excellent coding skills in Rust (or alternatively but less preferred Go and C++)
Knowledge of cutting-edge, graduate-level cryptography [threshold cryptography, distributed key generation, elliptic curves, zk-SNARKs, multi-party computation].
You are passionate about decentralized computing, including blockchain scaling, cross-chain communication, modular blockchain architectures, decentralized oracle networks, optimistic rollups and zk-rollups.
You are a self-starter, team-player, take high ownership and responsibility of your own work, and thrive in an autonomous, fast-paced, startup environment.
You own projects end-to-end, including architecture, development, and testing.
Bonus Points
Knowledge or experience with WebAssembly
Knowledge of distributed systems and consensus protocols [PBFT, Tendermint, HotStuff, Bullshark]
You are familiar with the technical architectures of the following great projects and can discuss them at length: Ethereum, Cosmos, StarkNet, Filecoin, Nomad, Axelar, Chainlink, Celestia, IPFS, Arbitrum, Optimism, Near, Polkadot.
What you’ll like about us
Flexible, autonomous work environment
Flexible location: Stanford / Palo Alto (we will help cover moving costs) and/or remote
Token compensation, in addition to salary
