About WorkOS 🚀
WorkOS builds tools and services for developers to help them implement authentication, identity, authorization, and overall enterprise readiness. We’re a fully distributed team with employees across North American time zones. We’re well-funded, having raised $100m in funding from top investors including Greenoaks Capital, Lachy Groom, and Lightspeed Ventures. Our fast-growing customer base includes rapidly growing SaaS companies like OpenAI, Cursor, Perplexity, Vercel, Plaid, and hundreds of others.
About the role 💭
On this team, you will help build reliable, high-throughput systems, define new abstractions that make authorization requirements intuitive for developers, and design APIs that remain both scalable and simple. We are seeking engineers who are motivated by complex data modeling and distributed systems challenges, who take ownership of high-impact systems end to end, and who enjoy working directly with customers to deliver robust, production-ready products.
Responsibilities ✔️
- Architect and implement high-performance authorization systems that support real-time policy evaluation, scalable relationship modeling, and consistent permission enforcement across multi-tenant applications
- Build deep domain expertise in authorization paradigms such as RBAC, ABAC, ReBAC, hierarchical FGA, and policy-driven access control, along with best practices for domain modeling and permission boundaries
- Work closely with enterprise customers to understand their compliance, governance, and access control requirements, and translate those needs into product features such as delegated administration, advanced auditability, policy versioning, and conditional access
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other product teams, solutions engineering, and GTM to ensure Authorization integrates seamlessly with the broader WorkOS platform, including AuthKit, SSO, Directory Sync, Audit Logs and related developer workflows
- Explore new greenfield opportunities, including incremental authorization primitives, real-time change propagation, agent identity, policy workflows, richer SDK capabilities, and deeper ecosystem integrations
- Play an active role in recruiting, mentoring, and developing the engineering team that will build and refine the Authorization product roadmap
Qualifications 🌟
- 5+ years of industry software development experience
- Experience working on small teams in fast-paced environments
- Background in building systems that solve for identity, authorization, storage, high throughput low latency, or large-scale data platforms
- Intellectually curious, independently driven, and passionate about great products
- A growth mindset, high emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills
- Bonus: Experience with our stack of TypeScript, React, and Postgres
- Bonus: Experience in B2B SaaS, developer tools, or a related industry
